The Miami Dolphins have made several moves this offseason, under the new regime led by general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan and head coach Jeff Hafley, with the hopes of giving the team the best chance at sustained success in the future.
Unfortunately, that means that Miami has moved on from several key pieces and signed inexpensive players on short-term contracts to take their place for the 2026 season.
With that, the Dolphins need to nail the 2026 NFL draft in a couple of weeks, because these picks and draft-day deals could determine what direction they go in the years beyond.
In a piece for ESPN on Thursday, NFL analyst Benjamin Solak put together a simple four-point plan that the Dolphins must follow to accomplish their goals over the course of the three-day selection meeting.
"Make a lot of picks, trade down for more picks and trade down for 2027 picks to prepare for a potential QB trade-up. Draft risky players," Solak suggested.
Miami needs to take swings and a lot of them. There are too many holes up and down the roster for them to sit pat. As Solak mentioned, if they can set themselves up with some extra picks in 2027, they could be ready to pounce on a first-round quarterback next year. But if Malik Willis flourishes, it will allow them to put more young pieces around him.
