Nominations for the 73rd annual Ashley Dearing Award were announced, recognizing Savannah's most versatile male high school athlete. Eligible athletes must play football, a winter sport like basketball or wrestling, and a spring sport.
The nominations for the 73rd annual Ashley Dearing Award were announced this week by the award's organizer, Karl DeMasi.
The coveted award recognizes the most versatile male high school athlete in Savannah in a vote by Chatham County athletic directors and media members.
To be eligible, athletes must play football, with basketball or wrestling as a winter sport, along with a spring sport.
This is the first year that wrestlers are eligible through the nomination process.
Last year, New Hampstead's Ra'Shawn Truell won the award after a record-setting season as the quarterback on the Phoenix football team, while also starring for the basketball team and participating in baseball.
There were 30 athletes nominated this year.
