Former Detroit Lions cornerback Jerry Jacobs has announced his retirement from football at the age of 28. He expressed gratitude to his family and reflected on his journey in the sport.

To my sisters, thank you for putting me in a game of football. I always knew it would take me far. Your support means the world to me.ā In his post, Jacobs explained heās been mulling over the decision for the past few months. āI can finally feel complete about how my football story even went,ā he wrote. āFootball taught me how to be a man on and off the field and to be a better person.ā Jacobs made 40 appearances with the Lions, including 29 starts, after going undrafted out of Arkansas in 2021. In 2023, his best season, he recorded three interceptions, 55 tackles, and eight passes defended. The Lions chose not to re-sign Jacobs. He then signed with the Los Angeles Rams, but was released, and would go on to sign with the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League. āI always knew it would come to an end one day but never thought Iāll be making this post this soon but I know itās time,ā he wrote. āRetirement is not the end of the road. Jerry Jacobs retired after contemplating the decision for several months, feeling complete about his football journey.
