Ohio State football adding Buckeye stripe to core uniforms

Ohio State is leaning into its roots ahead of the 2026 football season, giving its core uniforms an upgrade.

Ohio State announced on May 13 that it is adding a "Buckeye Stripe" to the shoulder sleeves on the uniforms for the 2026 season, a detail that was previously reserved for playoff games.

The sleeves will be added to the core home (silver helmet, scarlet jersey, gray pants) and core away (silver helmet, white jersey, gray pants) uniforms. The Buckeye stripe was also included on the newly released all-black "Tunnel Vision" uniforms.

The stripe is silver and white on the home jerseys, and silver and scarlet on the away jerseys.

Previously referred to as the "heritage stripe," the Buckeyes primarily wore the colors during the 1944-56, 1967-78 and 1988-2005 seasons, which included national championships in 1954, 1968, 1970 and 2002.

The last time the heritage stripe was worn by the Buckeyes in a game was the 2025 national championship against Notre Dame. The Buckeyes wore white jerseys with the three gray stripes outlining two scarlet stripes in the 34-23 victory.
