Ole Miss softball upsets Tennessee in SEC Tournament
No. 5 seed Tennessee (43-9, 16-8 SEC) opened softball play in the SEC Tournament on Wednesday. The Lady Vols were defeated by No. 13 seed Ole Miss (34-23, 6-18 SEC), 4-1, in the second round at John Cropp Stadium in Lexington, Kentucky.
Sage Mardjetko started for Tennessee and pitched 3.2 innings. She recorded three strikeouts and 48 pitches (30 strikes) against 15 batters.
Karlyn Pickens (13-8) replaced Mardjetko with two outs in the fourth inning. She pitched 3.1 innings and recorded three strikeouts against 17 batters. Pickens totaled 60 pitches, including 32 strikes.
Tennessee's offense totaled four hits in the contest. Bella Faw recorded the Lady Vols' one RBI. The Lady Vols did not have a double or triple in the game.
Ole Miss advances to face No. 4 seed Texas on Thursday (5 p.m. EDT). The Rebels advanced to the second round after defeating No. 12 seed South Carolina, 2-0, on Tuesday.
