Could Paraguay Knock Off the USMNT?

The Paraguay-USMNT matchup will be one of the most anticipated group stage games, as it also happens to be the opening match on U.S. soil.

The two teams squared off last November, and Alfaro kept things relatively simple, deploying a two-striker 4-4-2 setup. It nearly paid off, with the United States earning a narrow 2–1 win in what proved to be a highly competitive and challenging match.

For the World Cup opener, expect the 63-year-old manager to shift toward a more conservative shape, likely using a single striker with a packed midfield. Alfaro will be encouraged by the return of Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Diego Gómez, who is expected to be fit and included in the World Cup squad.
