Pep Guardiola emphasizes the necessity for his team to win all remaining matches to surpass Arsenal in the league standings.
Pep: We cannot drop any points
Pep Guardiola says we must win our remaining games to have any chance of ending the season above Arsenal.
Sunday’s crucial 2-1 win over the Gunners means the Blues can go above the North London side with victory at Burnley on Wednesday evening.
But anything less than six wins from six and the boss believes our chance will be gone.
Asked about the possibility of ending Arsenal’s long stay at the Premier League summit – one that stretches back more than 200 days – Pep said: “[200 days] - that shows how good they have been, how consistent they have been.
“[This is ] a game to try to be the same points as them.
“As we have with Arsenal and Liverpool in the past, both teams know we cannot drop points or lose, because it will be difficult to recover.
“The calendar is so demanding. It’s really tough.”
PEP GUARDIOLA: THE DECAdE COLLECTION
The boss was also asked whether leading the Premier League or hunting down the leaders brought pressure or freedom?
He replied: “No. More difficult, especially physically with what happened after Arsenal.
“We go to Burnley and have to perform to the level that we have to do. We go to win the game because it’s what we need.”
Guardiola also says the pairing of Bernardo and Rodri – the latter set to miss the trip to Turf Moor with a groin issue – has been integral to City’s excellent form over the past month.
Both players have won many titles with the Blues, but their ability to dictate and control games, particularly in the past month, has been crucial.
“The last games have been really important - both have experience, personality and are players that can make a lateral drive, left, right.
“With the next action, they are composed with and without the ball.
“The physicality and many things. They are not young guys anymore, they are experienced in these types of games and know how they must be played.
“They were exceptional, but not just these [recent] games. We cannot forget it has been 16 months without Rodri. Success depends on the players you have.
“If you don’t have injuries or not in the right spot, always you can compete.
“That’s why I am pleased with how we do without Rodri.
“Last season was not perfect, but we got to the FA Cup final and finished third.
“Everything was more consistent this year. We had an incredible player in Mateo Kovacic who has been one year out and Nico Gonzalez helped us a lot in the absence of Rodri to be where we are now.”
Pep Guardiola’s brilliant Blues are on the hunt for yet more silverware under Wembley’s famous arch.
We return to the national stadium on Saturday 25 April in a 17:15 (UK) kick-off for our FA Cup semi-final with Southampton.
And Members can be there with prices starting from £30 for adults and £20 for U18s and over 65s.
As we’ve seen with other recent Wembley visits, it’s an occasion not to be missed!
Pep Guardiola stated that his team cannot afford to drop any points if they want to finish above Arsenal.
The exact number of remaining games is not specified, but Guardiola insists that winning all is crucial.
Winning their remaining matches is essential for Manchester City to have a chance at finishing higher than Arsenal in the league.
The next match for Manchester City is against Burnley, but the specific date is not provided in the excerpt.
