After a week of anticipation, 48-plus hours of palpably anxiety-inducing speculation since a significant chunk of the Final Four team announced their returns to Illinois for the 2026-2027 campaign, Andrej Stojakovic has announced his decision to do the same.
Stojakovic, who will enter his Senior season and second season at Illinois, is among the biggest get, or rather, retention from last season.
Stojakovic averaged 13.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and an assist per game, with a keen ability to drive into the rim and impose his will. There were moments last season that left many scratching their heads, with Stojakovic’s tendency to drive regardless of the situation.
After a skiddish regular season, where some of his production was halted by injury, it seemed the investment in Stojakovic may not have been worth it for Underwood and the program. That changed in March Madness.
He became the best sixth man of the NCAA tournament, averaging 13.8 points per game and providing a unique look against opposing teams.
His role will likely look different in 2026-2027. He is likely to assume a starting role, and that is very likely to be part of the reason why Stojakovic decided to return.
