The game seemed destined for extra time before Reigan Heskey scored the winner for City in the 87th minute with a sublime goal. Manchester City’s FA Youth Cup win shows that the future is bright for City.
The Manchester City under-18 side, managed by Oliver Reiss, put in a spirited performance against their local rivals in front of a raucous crowd at the Joie Stadium last night. Last night’s match was a big occasion, and although City didn’t have it all their own way, Oliver Reiss’s side showed that they are made of the right stuff to seal a memorable victory.
Manchester City had their moments before a superb Floyd Samba free kick gave City the lead in the 40th minute. Samba’s free kick was technically superb and gave United keeper Cameron Byrne-Hughes no chance of making a save. However, City’s lead would only last two minutes as United levelled through a Godwill Kukonki header from a Jim Thwaites cross. The gane was level at 1-1 at the interval with all to play for.
The final score was 2-1 in favor of Manchester City.

That was until the 87th minute when Reigan Heskey produced a piece of magic to decide last night’s FA Youth Cup final. Heskey received the ball on the left of the United penalty area and he cut inside and produced a magical finish to beat United keeper Cameron Byrne-Hughes to give Manchester City the 2-1 lead they thoroughly deserved. Manchester United pushed for an equalizer but they couldn’t find and at the final whistle Oliver Reiss’ side had claimed the 2026 FA Youth Cup.
Manchester City are a club that is built for success at all levels. Whether it is the first team, EDS side, woman’s side or the under-18 side. It is in the clubs DNA to win silverware. City’s under-18 side did exactly that with a brilliant 2-1 win over their arch-rivals. Also it was fantastic to see Pep Guardiola, Nathan Ake, Phil Foden and Antoine Semenyo supporting City’s under-18 side last night. Their support shows that City are a club all pulling in the same direction.
What was also apparent is that the future is bright for Manchester City. The amount of talent in City’s under-18 side was on full display last night. Reigan Heskey, Ryan McAidoo, Teddie Lamb, Floyd Samba, and Kaden Braithwaite all look destined for long and successful careers. What also stood out across the entire City under-18 side is they have the temperament required for the big occasion. That was fantastic to see.
