The Boston Red Sox lost 2-1 to the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday night, and Wilyer Abreu had some terrible luck on one swing.
Trailing by two runs in the seventh inning, Wilyer Abreu stepped up to the plate with one on and nobody out. He hit a high fly ball that looked destined to tie the game. However, it was caught on the warning track. Unfortunately for Abreu and the Red Sox, that ball would have been a home run had they been playing at any other ballpark.
According to Baseball Savant, the ball came off Abreu's bat at 105.6 mph, with a 32-degree launch angle. Fenway Park is the only venue in baseball that keeps the ball inside the park.
Back-to-back singles with two outs in the inning would plate one run for the Red Sox. However, Abreu's home run would have knotted the game at two apiece. Abreu has been one of the few great hitters on the Red Sox so far, and he almost came through with a clutch home run. He has six home runs and an .841 OPS so far this season.
The Red Sox are currently 17-24, but things have looked slightly better as of late. The results are not showing up in the win column just yet, and the team could use some things going their way.Ā Abreu missing a game-tying home run by a few feet on Tuesday is a good representation of how things have gone this season.
