Xavier baseball, ranked No. 92 in RPI entering the final month of the regular season, picked up a top 5 road win on Friday, May 1.
Xavier, which entered the night 21-25 overall, upset No. 3 Georgia Tech, 8-4, in extra innings at Mac Nease Baseball Park at Russ Chandler Stadium in Atlanta.
After its fifth Quad 1 win of the season, Xavier moved up 19 spots in RPI.
It was Xavier's first win over a top 5 program since beating No. 2 LSU, 2-1, in March 2024.

The upset snapped Georgia Tech's 13-game home winning streak. The Yellow Jackets entered the three-game series having won six straight and 19 of their last 21 games. Xavier was previously 1-7 all-time against Georgia Tech.
Coming out of the bullpen, Michael Murphy tossed 6 ⅓ innings of two-run ball, permitting nine hits, walking none and striking out six against a Georgia Tech offense that is No. 1 in the nation in runs per game (10.5).
Eight different Musketeers cracked the hit column in Friday's win.
The biggest blast came from Moeller High School product Carter Christenson, who hit a three-run, two-out homer in the top of the 10th inning to put Xavier ahead for good. It was Christenson's lone at-bat of the game and the freshman's first career home run.
Donavan Canterberry added an insurance run two batters later with an RBI single that scored Tanner Thomas (2-for-3, two runs).
Xavier (22-25, 10-5) ranks fourth in the Big East behind UConn, St. John's and Creighton. The Big East Tournament is at Prasco Park in Mason May 20-23.

Xavier will play two more against Georgia Tech over the weekend before hosting Michigan (No. 45 RPI) at Hayden Field on Tuesday, May 5. The Musketeers will then wrap the regular season with a three-game series at Butler and a three-game set at home against Creighton, a series that begins at Great American Ball Park Thursday, May 14.
