Rodriguez explained that in the biggest moments, you wanted Sterling on the call.
âI mean, I remember âBern baby Bern. âCano, donât you know?â I mean, so, âA-bomb by A(-Rod)â â such a big deal and it really crystallizes a great moment and it stamps it in time,â Rodriguez said on Thursday, via YouTube. âYou can go back, you know, a decade, two decades and share the John Sterling home run call or âthe Yankees win, the Yankees win.ââ
Rodriguez also made a point that speaks to the sheer reach of Sterlingâs legacy.
When Carton brought up the moment David Ortiz, the Red Sox icon known as âBig Papi,â mimicked Sterlingâs signature call on a national Fox broadcast by declaring âYankees lose, Yankees lose,â it stopped Rodriguez in his tracks.
âUnanimously, I would say that everyone loves and revered John Sterling,â Rodriguez said.
