The London is Blue podcast have been looking at Chelsea’s struggles in attack against Man City on Sunday.
“Marc Cucurella, he had a 0.53 xG, from the 1.14 total Chelsea had. So he makes up 47% of the total xG. Cole [Palmer] gets four shots in this game, 0.28 xG. Estevao has zero shots in this game. So we have multiple attackers on the pitch, and yet your best chances are coming from your left sided defender,” Dan Dormer pointed out.
“You’re not going to do anything if you left back is the one that has to do everything in the team,” Nick Verlaney agreed.

It was so true that this was a disaster game for the attack, and for the team structure in general. There was a short spell in the first half where we were able to get Pedro Neto running in behind. After that, there was a total lack of threat from the whole team, summed up by the fact that Cucurella had most of our xG, and most of that was from just one shot.
Andrey Santos spoke out after the game with the weak claim that Chelsea were actually doing well in the first half against Man City.
It feels like new players won’t save this project, but that won’t stop them buying them, including one interesting Premier League based target.
