INDIANAPOLIS -- With the start of the second round trending well with only a handful of edge rushers and linebackers snatched up in the first 14 picks, the Colts have opted to drop back six spots, falling from the 47th overall pick to No. 53, while picking up draft capital in the process.
Indianapolis general manager Chris Ballard made a trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers an hour into Friday's second round of the NFL Draft. In exchange for the 47th pick and a late-seventh rounder (No. 249), the Colts grabbed picks Nos. 53, 135 (fourth round) and 237 (seventh round).
Having traded away their first-rounder for All-Pro cornerback Sauce Gardner at the trade deadline last season, the Colts entered the Draft with seven picks -- one each in the second through sixth rounds as well as a pair in the seventh. Indianapolis now owns eight picks: Nos. 53, 78, 113, 135, 156, 214, 237 and 254
With the 47th pick, the Steelers selected Alabama wide receiver Germie Bernard.

The Colts received the 53rd overall pick, a fourth-round pick (135), and a seventh-round pick (237) in exchange for their 47th pick and a late-seventh rounder.
The Colts traded down to gain additional draft capital while still having the opportunity to select a player in the second round.
