Los Angeles Dodgers starter Tyler Glasnow recorded his 1,000th career strikeout in his start against the Houston Astros Wednesday.
Glasnow, after allowing a lead-off homer to Brice Matthews, snapped straight back into it and struck out one of the best hitters in MLB in Yordan Alvarez to record No. 1,000. It was his 48th strikeout of the season, which leads all Dodgers.
The Santa Clarita native has recorded more than a quarter of his strikeouts with the Dodgers since signing with LA ahead of the 2024 season. He had a career-high 168 of them in his first season with the team, during which he made his first All-Star Game, and followed to up with 106 in 2025.
As it stands, heâs on pace to break his personal record in 2026.
His strikeouts arenât the only thing that stand out, though, as heâs been one of the Dodgersâ best pitchers since his arrival despite his injury struggles. He had a 3.49 ERA through 22 games in 2024 before missing the end of the season with an injury, and finished strong in 2025 with a 3.19 ERA despite missing most of the beginning of the season on the injured list.
Glasnow has been , posting a 2.56 ERA through his first six appearances. He led MLB in hits per nine innings heading into his start Wednesday with a mark of 4.4, and has what would be the lowest WHIP of his career with a 0.828.

Glasnow began his career with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2016, splitting time between starting and long relief. He has 24 strikeouts in his first season, followed by a 56-strikeout year in 2017.
The big right-hander exclusively pitched as a reliever for the Pirates in 2018, recording 72 strikeouts through 34 games with the team before they shipped him to the Tampa Bay Rays. He made 11 starts to close the season with the Rays, posting 64 more Ks.
Glasnow spent five more seasons with the Rays, and had fantastic numbers in the AL East through 71 starts. 526 of his career strikeouts came during his 388.1 innings with the Rays, with whom he had a 3.20 ERA.
The Dodgers trailed the Astros 1-0 following the first inning, and Glasnow will look to shut them down as they look to take a series win for the first time in nearly two weeks.
