The Atlanta Falcons added one of the most dynamic playmakers in the 2026 NFL Draft by selecting Zachariah Branch with the No. 79 overall pick, bringing explosive speed and versatility to their offense and special teams units.

Branch, who spent time at both USC and Georgia during his college career, enters the league as one of the most electrifying athletes in this year’s class. Measuring 5-foot-8½ and 177 pounds, he lacks prototypical size for an NFL wide receiver, but he more than compensates with elite quickness and playmaking ability. His 4.35-second 40-yard dash at the combine confirmed what showed up consistently on tape—game-breaking speed that can stress defenses at every level.

Initially known as a standout return specialist, Branch earned first-team All-American honors in 2023 while at USC. He later expanded his role at Georgia, developing into a more complete offensive weapon. In his final college season, he recorded 81 receptions for 811 yards and six touchdowns, showcasing his ability to contribute as a high-volume target in addition to his big-play capabilities.

Branch brings speed, versatility to Falcons but questions remain on full WR role

Branch’s versatility is a major reason the Falcons were drawn to him. He can line up in the slot, operate on jet sweeps, and provide immediate impact in the return game. His acceleration and agility make him especially dangerous in open space, where he excels at turning short gains into explosive plays. A significant portion of his production at Georgia came on screen passes, allowing him to use his elusiveness to generate yards after the catch.

Still, questions remain about his ability to develop into a complete receiver at the next level. His route tree in college was somewhat limited, and his size could present challenges against physical NFL defenders. Expanding his route-running precision and proving he can win consistently downfield will be key to his long-term success.
