The San Francisco Giants have had a strange 2026 season so far under Tony Vitello. The stars of the team are struggling mightily, though Rafael Devers has begun to turn things around lately.
But, overall, the Giants need a lot more out of their roster, especially their offense. If things don't turn around soon, the Giants might wind up selling some players by the trade deadline.
Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter is urging the Giants to sell high on one player, in 140 OPS+ slugger Case Schmitt.
"After the surprise early trade of catcher Patrick Bailey, it feels like the Giants are open for business," Reuter writes. "Veterans Robbie Ray and Luis Arraez are their most obvious trade chips, but selling high on Schmitt could net a significant return."
The Giants are struggling in the 2026 season, particularly with their offense, prompting speculation about potential trades.
Case Schmitt is a slugger with a 147 OPS+, and analysts believe the Giants should capitalize on his value by trading him.
A 147 OPS+ indicates that a player is 47% better than the league average in terms of on-base and slugging percentage, highlighting Schmitt's offensive prowess.

Trading Schmitt would be a slightly controversial decision since he's not expensive, and he's playing very well right now. But trading him would clear up a logjam and be some good news for Bryce Eldridge.
If the Giants were to trade Schmitt, they would open the door for Eldridge to get the consistent everyday playing time that he deserves this season.
While the Giants shouldn't just trade Schmitt to clear a spot for Eldridge, it would be a nice addition on top of the return they could get for the breakout slugger.
Speaking of a trade return, could the Giants actually get something decent for trading Schmitt? Simply put, yes, the Giants could land a solid return for trading Schmitt.
The 27-year-old is in his fourth MLB season and is under club control through the 2029 season. He's yet to even begin his arbitration-eligible seasons.
Such a player would surely bring a strong return for the Giants in the trade market if they dealt him. His 147 OPS+ with six homers, a .294 batting average, and .864 OPS through 34 games is impressive. But there's a decent chance regression could come for Schmitt.
His previous high OPS was a .760 in 2024, and last year he was a league-average hitter with a 100 OPS+. While Schmitt might not be a bad player, his limitations defensively could make him an expendable piece in a trade this season.
The Giants could land a strong return to add to their prospect depth, clear up a logjam in the infield between Devers and Eldridge, and also avoid running the risk of missing their window to trade Schmitt.
