Johnson Wagner has suggested that Xander Schauffele is flying right under the radar ahead of the PGA Championship and has a great chance of success at Aronimink.
It has been a mixed year for Schauffele so far. There have certainly been glimpses of his best form, with the American finishing inside the top 10 in four of his last seven starts on the PGA Tour.
However, those hoping to see him rival the likes of Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy following his victory at last yearâs Baycurrent Classic may be slightly underwhelmed.
Most recently, Schauffele finished in a tie for 60th at the Truist Championship. It was particularly worrying given that he had finished second on both of his previous two visits to Quail Hollow for the events.
Nevertheless, Johnson Wagner believes that Schauffele is going to be in the mix at the PGA Championship â and will add to his tally of majors in the very near future.

âI think Xander Schauffele is just sliding right under the radar right now. Weâve been talking on radio about all this stuff about whoâs the third best player in the world. Well, itâs Cam Young. Youâve got to go down the world rankings, winning The Players, winning a signature event. Fitz is on a hell of a run. Xander is just poised I think to go on a run like he did in 2024 when he won those two majors,â he said on .

As Wagner notes, Cameron Young has moved himself alongside the two best players in the world with his form in recent weeks.
He has won The Players Championship and the Cadillac Championship. He also finished third at The Masters and had a reasonable chance of winning at Quail Hollow this past week.
Young seems to have all of the tools to be a major champion before too long, particularly now he has got over the hurdle of winning on the PGA Tour.
Wagner explained what he particularly likes about the 29-year-oldâs game.
âIâm impressed with him, with as much speed as he has, the ability to dial and hit the soft shots. His short game was unbelievable at Doral, to be able to have every shot in the bag,â he said.
âAnd when you think about the pause in his backswing, that allows to sort of control the tempo of the downswing. If he needs to take something off a little wedge, he can do it because of that pause. It doesnât have the fast transition.â
The Masters saw a number of the PGA Tourâs best players battle it out at the top end of the leaderboard, with Rory McIlroy ultimately emerging victorious.
It would be another big win for those at Ponte Vedra if a similar cluster of names shone at Aronimink in the coming days.
