Calum McFarlane has his first game as Chelsea interim coach at Stamford Bridge on Monday night, and he was asked about what he could do to get the crowd excited after some tough times.
âYeah, we need the fans. We need the crowd to bring a positive energy and the right energy and get behind the team,â the interim manager said.
âWe all want to do well for this club. We know that thereâs still a lot to play for. Like you said, the cup final. We can still get in the Champions League. We want to win every single game. Weâve got two more games at Stamford Bridge. I think thatâs correct, yeah? Two more games at Stamford Bridge. We want to win as many games as possible and we need that.â
Thereâs no doubt that the atmosphere at Stamford Bridge has been muted â and sometimes mutinous â in the last couple of months. The issues actually go back to when things started tailing off under Enzo Maresca.
The fans donât just want good results, they want a project they can believe in and players they can connect with. McFarlane canât provide that, but he can certainly improve things with a big three points.
