The New England Patriots are expected to land A.J. Brown in the coming weeks, and Kevin Byard, who played with Brown on the Tennessee Titans, spoke on trade rumors.
Brown's name has been floating around in Patriots trade rumors for months. Adam Schefter recently revealed that the Patriots are likely to trade for the three-time Pro Bowler after June 1. Byard loves the idea of getting Brown in a Patriots uniform.
"Honestly I try and stay out of that part of the business...I hope he can come here and play with us...if we're able to get AJ obviously he's an incredible talent. He's a true No. 1 receiver in this league," Byard said to reporters on Tuesday, per 98.5 The Sports Hub's Alex Barth.
Byard and Brown worked out together this offseason, and Byard recalled Brown being "unstoppable" at practices when they were with the Titans as well.
The Patriots moved on from their leading receiver from a season ago, Stefon Diggs, and signed Romeo Doubs this offseason. Doubs is capable of being a No. 1 receiver, but he has not really been in that role in the NFL yet. However, Brown has not only been a No.1 receiver for basically his entire career, but he has also helped lead a team to a championship.
Byard and Brown were teammates for three seasons, and could soon be teammates again with Mike Vrabel as their head coach. While nothing is set in stone, the overwhelming belief is that Brown will get traded after June 1, and he will be a Patriot.
The Patriots did not draft any wide receivers, and the Philadelphia Eagles traded for Dontayvion Wicks and traded up to draft Makai Lemon in the first round. The Eagles would not have added Wicks and spent a first-round pick on a receiver if they knew Brown would be back. Additionally, there is a report that Brown is inquiring about condos in Seaport this week.
Brown grew up a Patriots fan and has a strong relationship with Vrabel. There are plenty of signs pointing to Brown joining his childhood team and reuniting with Vrabel soon.
