PITTSBURGH â With its second pick on Night 2 of the 2026 NFL Draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers selected Penn State quarterback Drew Allar with the 76th overall pick, becoming the second quarterback off the board in the third round.
The Steelers had a strong contingent of University of Pitt fans in attendance on Friday, April 24, but there was also a bulk of Penn State fans in the draft theater that cheered on the now former Nittany Lion. While the reaction from the crowd on site showered praise, the reaction online was much different.

In Pennsylvania, there is always a bitter hatred between Pitt and Penn State fans and individuals on the always friendly world of social media, the two sides of fans certainly made their thoughts known.
One Pitt fan wrote that Allarâs ability to win games are in question, most recently losing to Oregon at home during the 2025 season, among other games that the team fell short.
While one fan doesnât agree with the pick, that going in a different direction would be a better game plan, the fan acknowledges general manager Omar Khan and head coach Mike McCarthyâs willingness to take chances.
Reactions among Steelers fans were mixed, with some celebrating the pick while others expressed concerns, particularly reflecting the rivalry between Pitt and Penn State fans.

With another young quarterback and three now on the roster due to the waiting game with Aaron Rodgers stretching on for the second consecutive season, this fan wants to test out the young arms, along with veteran Mason Rudolph.
Allar had an exceptional career and while Allar fell short in some of the bigger games, this fan believes that Allar will be able to make an impact at the NFL level.

While many fans had the same reaction as when Kenny Pickett was drafted in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, time will tell if Allar and or Howard will make an impact in the NFL
